Fun with friends

My BFF and college roommate (well, one of them - we missed you and Peyton, Lacey!) Lauren came to visit today with her 8-month-old Easton. We met up with our friend Jessica and her 5-month-old Ella (and her husband and boys) at our favorite place for mid-day margaritas - Joe T's! The weather was beautiful, so we ate outside and all the babies were on their best behavior.

I'm looking forward to all the fun times ahead with our kiddos - what a great bunch!

STOP. . .

GROWING!!!

Logan is now in size 1 diapers and size 0-3 month clothes (the 0-3 tops fit, but the pants are still a little big). We can still squeeze him into his newborn stuff, but that's just it - we have to squeeze him in.

He is getting so strong and big. I don't have a baby scale and we don't have a Dr. appointment for another 3 weeks, but I'm guessing he's 10+ pounds. I'll have Andrew get on our scale with him later and let you know. . .

Playtime!

Logan and Lucy enjoyed playtime this afternoon.

How Lucy rolls when Logan is in the car with us.

I think Logan is growing on Lucy.

(I hope it was a) Merry Christmas!

I meant to blog yesterday to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, but I got distracted. We drove to San Antonio after Logan's breakfast and he was happy the whole trip (sleeping) except for the last 20 minutes when he realized it was time for him to be hungry.

Nonny gave him a bottle the second we walked in the door, so she's his new best friend now. Logan loves his Nonny and Poppy so much. (see Son of a Preacher blog for a picture with Nonny)

On a side note, do you know how much more you have to pack when travelling with a baby??? You'd think we were staying for a month!

5 hours. . .

Logan just fell asleep after being awake for 5 hours! This is a first for our little guy. He didn't nap at all between his last two feedings. He was very content to be awake, but I found myself not knowing what to do with him. Should I do a little song and dance for him? He laid on his activity mat, sat in his swing, stared at me while I read today's mail. . . I should probably take advantage of him being asleep and go to bed myself because I'm sure he'll be out for a while. BUT, a mom's work is never done, so there's too much I'd leave undone if I went to bed now. Besides, I'm waiting for a video to upload. If it works, you'll get to see Logan LIVE!

I think he smiled at Stephanie yesterday and maybe he shot me a smile this morning. I heard babies start smiling between 5 and 6 weeks, so I'm so anxious for it to be a regular event!

Update: I can't get the darn video to load!!! And Logan is awake after being asleep for less than two hours. He's not dirty nor does he have a fever, but he woke up very unhappy. Andrew has swaddled him and he let out a good burp, so maybe NOW he will sleep for a while. This is uncharted territory for us. He has been pretty predictable until now.

This is a picture of Logan earlier today. I sat him up in the chair like I do every afternoon for a few minutes while I get something done. But today I came back into the room to find him like this. . . He didn't seem to mind.

Fast Friends

Logan and I had a busy day! My BFF Stephanie and her husband Derek came for a visit this morning to meet Logan. They are expecting a baby girl in March (you look SO cute Steph!) You guys are going to be great parents!

When they left we headed into Fort Worth to meet one of my co-worker's new babies. He is 10 days younger than Logan and is a DOLL!!! He is such a good looking baby and I'm sure he and Logan will be lady killers together some day : )
I love how both babies are wiggly in this picture.

After we left sweet baby Eli's house, we headed to my office for the gift exchange "ceremony." As employees we brainstorm every year about what we are going to get our bosses. This year was a hit I think - King Ranch coolers. To my co-worker blog followers: Great to see you all today!

And since we were in town, I called my dear friend Jessica to see if we could stop by and see her and her three kiddos - sweetest kids you've ever met! I had packed a bottle for Logan just in case he decided to throw a hungry fit at the office, so we were able to stay at Jessica's a while. Her middle boy Luke was a big Logan fan and sang him a lullabye with his guitar right before we left. I was so upset that my camera was in the car because I would've loved to get it on video. Thanks for having us Jessica!

Tomorrow is another visit with a friend and then dentist appointments for Andrew and me - yuck! I haven't finished Christmas shopping, but I'm not about to head to a mall this week. . .or next. So family, sorry if your gifts are late - I'm a little distracted this year.

Mom's Night Out!

Friday night was our girl's 3rd annual ornament exchange. I left Andrew a bottle on "liquid gold" (is that what you call it Valerie?!) and went on my merry way!

Andrew was so nice to keep Logan by himself for 4 hours. He did a great job and Logan was a very happy boy when I got home, but Andrew did take some pictures while I was gone - a guilt trip maybe??? I let Andrew sleep until noon on Saturday.

Work it. Own it.

When Logan is wide awake and has a full belly, Andrew and I like to have mini photo shoots with him. Andrew laid him on the floor this weekend for a play date with Lucy and I got some this afternoon in his Baby Legs (leg warmers!) They're still a little big on him, but I just think they're so cute! Here are some pictures. . .

Lucy cleaning logan's hands

What big eyes you have.

Check out his tiny little toes in these pictures!

BIG bib for big spit-ups!

After 2 days below freezing, we were glad to get out today. We went to Babies R Us for wipies and new pacifiers, to Barnes and Noble for a latte and some browsing, and to Hobby Lobby because. . . well. . .we pass it on our way home! I also took Logan to meet our dry cleaner. She is the nicest lady who touched my growing belly EVERY time I walked in.

Logan has been a VERY out-and-about baby, but he has slept through every outing. Poor guy probably thinks he's always cooped up inside this house.

T.I.R.E.D

Logan has changed his sleeping schedule so he’s up two times a night now. I know, I know. I can’t complain because he is just 3 weeks old and we are so spoiled to have such a good baby, but it’s still thrown us off a bit. I just found this picture on our computer that Andrew took this weekend. He titled it “sleeping beauties.” How sweet is Andrew???

Lucy’s been pretty tired, too. I haven’t written about her much and many have asked how she’s doing. She was very depressed for several days after Logan got here, but she’s accepted him now and is getting more and more comfortable with the idea that he is here to stay. She’ll come up to me while I’m holding him and lick his head or hands . . .or face. It’s pretty cute. Andrew got some pictures of them on Saturday, but I can’t find them on the computer, so I’ll post later. . .

My Little Napper

When Logan starts to stir before he wakes up, you'll see lots of arm flailing if you look his way. After this particular flail they stayed above his head for a while. What a doll!

Thanks Nonny

My mom was here this week to help during the day. I was able to get a little more done than usual because I had someone to hold Logan. Thanks Mom!

Logan today. . .

Logan is growing every day. I'm threatening to stop feeding him and letting him sleep because I like tiny baby Logan so much. I know each phase of his life will be so much fun, but I'm going to have a hard time watching him grow up. He is wide awake twice a day for a few hours. Once in the morning after his breakfast and once after dinner. His eyes are so big and I think they are going to be blue.

Cousin Olivia

Thanksgiving day, Andrew's family arrived from Omaha to meet the newest edition to the family. His sister Kristi, husband Matt, Olivia and Addison were so nice to make the LONG drive down. For Olivia, the drive probably felt extra long because she was so anxious to meet her new cousin. Logan was asleep when she arrived, so she was a little upset that she couldn't hold him right away. It was a long nap for the little guy, but she was sure to check on him every 10 seconds to see if he was awake yet.

When he finally did wake up, she was VERY sad to hear that he had to be changed and fed before she could hold him. When I went to feed him she camped out outside his room and knocked to check on us every minute or two.

Then finally, FINALLY, Logan had a dry diaper and a full belly and was ready to meet his cousin. Olivia was so good with him and we look forward to the free baby sitting in our future!

2nd Cousin Raleigh

The day after we got home from the hospital Andrew's cousin Derek, his wife Wendi, and their 5 month old Raleigh came to meet Logan and to bring us dinner. (GREAT Mexican lasagna, Wendi!) This is how Raleigh chose to welcome her new cousin to the world. . .

Smooshable-icious

We put Logan to bed on his back at night on his crib wedge and when we wake up in the morning we find him on his side with his arm under his face. It is the sweetest thing to wake up to.

YIPPEEE!!!

Yesterday we met Amy at her studio in Grapevine for Logan's newborn pictures. Logan arrived awake and happy, so we got a few shots, then we needed him asleep for the rest of the session. Whoa! For a baby who has perfected the art of the nap you would think this would've been an easy task. He was naked, it was cold and he was very awake. Amy was so patient to wait for me to get him down. I fed him, I rocked him, I shush, shush, shushed him until I was blue in the face. Poor guy was naked for 3 straight hours. I was pooped on, peed on, and we had to do some heavy duty stain removing on some blankets when we got home, but Amy finally got her shots. She does AMAZING work, wouldn't you agree???

You can check out her BLOG for a couple more - www.imagesofgracephoto.com

And Logan didn't take that early morning nap again this morning either. I guess I'll have to find a new time of day to shower. . .

Better Mom than Blogger

I've tried to make time every day to post a picture, but I just never get around to it! Here is one from Thanksgiving that I just love. If you keep up with my dad's blog then you've already seen it, but I know some of you don't, so here it is!!!

Andrew went back to work today and my in-laws were so kind to ask if I wanted them to stay a few more days. I said YES!!! Things are running smoothly so far today, so I think we'll be okay, but I was terrified to be alone at home with Logan and not have anyone to hand him off to if I needed to do something. I will have to learn to just set him down and let him cry sometimes I guess, but it is so hard!

I will be a better blogger when I get my routine down - promise!!!

Love Bug

Here are a few pictures of Logan today. I didn't think I had posted any of him without a cap on. He has lots of soft dark hair. We think it's pretty cute.

Today was a good day. Eat, sleep, change clothes, look around a little, repeat.

Home Sweet Home

After two nights in the hospital living out of a suitcase we are glad to be home. We got home just before 2 pm today and are already so much more comfortable taking care of our baby boy here surrounded by all of our things.

Andrew sat down with Logan while I showered and when I got out this is what I found. Logan and Andrew were both crashed and Andrew had Logan's pacifier poking at his cheek instead of in his mouth. Logan didn't mind at all. I was so proud to see my guys bonding. Andrew is a natural with Logan. He is a great swaddler and is so calm and loving. This all coming from a guy who never wanted to hold a newborn. I knew it would be different with our own.

What a great day. . .

Happy Birthday Mimi!

November 22, 2008. We can't wait to see you back here on Thursday!

Heading Home

54 degrees today. I arrived at the hospital in shorts on Thursday and a cold front blew in that day. I just LOVE Autumn weather. Logan slept all the way home. There was construction traffic, so it was a long drive. We joked that we were so careful coming home that we drove 5 mph the whole way. And while that is true, it is was not by choice.

A Little Prayer of Thanksgiving

Well, it's just after 5 am and I'm awake - very awake. I've seen every hour on the clock since 1 am and every minute since 4 am. Maybe I drank too much water last night. Maybe my body doesn't like not working all day and is telling me to get back to the office for some brain exercise. Maybe I'm nervous that my Dr. is going to give me no hope of ever meeting my sweet baby boy EVER at today's appointment.

Whatever the reason, I'm just trying to be grateful that at 40 weeks pregnant this is the first sleepless night I've had. I've had a few rough nights, but for the most part, I've had great sleep. I've got friends who haven't been sleeping for months and I've got friends who are up 5 times a night to potty starting at 13 weeks. But me? Until this week I've only been up once a night.

Thank you Lord for the incredible pregnancy that I've had. Thank you that Logan and I are both healthy and that there's nothing worrying the Dr. that makes her want to take him out of me until he's ready. Thank you for being in in control of this whole situation and for giving me so much patience about his arrival when everyone else seems to be in a big hurry.

No Baby Yet

Due today and feeling great. No signs of delivering anytime soon. We'll keep you posted. . .

39 weeks!

Here is what is probably the last pregnant picture I will post on this site. With only a week to go until my due date I'm guessing the next picture I post will be of our son. That is a frightening (but exciting!) thought. My pregnancy has been so great and has flown by for the most part. Tonight Andrew and I went to the wedding of a friend and co-worker of mine. We had a great time, but I felt like the grandma in the room who wanted to leave only after I had eaten cake. I think we were the first ones to leave. Great cake, though!

Several people have asked if we are ready to have this baby. My only response is that we are as ready as we know how to be. We know we are in for some intense on-the-job training over the next few weeks. . .and years!

We will keep you posted if there are any new developments! My bet is on Wednesday, November 12. The 13th is a full moon, too, so maybe that will draw the little guy out of me!

Uh oh - I'm cleaning baseboards!

Almost every mom has a pre-birth baseboard story - ". . .the night before So and So was born I was on my hands and knees cleaning baseboards. . ." Andrew and I cleaned our carpet today. We had a bad experience with a steam cleaning company (wet carpet for FOUR days), so we just do it ourselves now (plug - the Oreck dry cleaning system is super easy and has great results). Anyway, it involves sprinkling a powder on your carpet and using the Orbiter to rub the powder into the carpet. This process causes the baseboards to become powdery, so afterward I have to use the mini Oreck and brush accessory to clean them up. Hopefully I won't have this kiddo tomorrow, though, there's still a few more things I need to wrap up around here and especially at the office.

We also hung a curtain today in Logan's room. My mom found a cute fabric that matched his bedding and threw together a super cute window covering. The original plan was to get shutters for this window, but boy are shutters expensive. And with the market down like it is, we just decided we could sacrifice the shutters. Logan's room is that room in the house - I'm guessing every house has one - that is super cold in the winter and unbearably hot in the summers. This window brings in so much light, too, that we were worried about sleeping habits. But now, NOW we have this curtain that blocks so much light and heat. It was almost comfortable in there this afternoon despite the 80 degree November day outside.

36 Weeks and a few days

So I'm going weekly to my Dr. now. That means we're getting close I think. She said not to expect Logan to be a day early from what she can tell right now. That's fine with me. I can't believe that I have just roughly 3 weeks left of not being a mommy. I'm going to try to enjoy every second.

So it's time for more pictures, and for a change of scenery Andrew and I stepped outside to our front porch. After the first picture we agreed that my smiles have been pretty weird lately. I don't know if it's the bigger cheeks, the pressure of the posed shot, or if I'm just not feeling picture-ific. So I tried out a couple of new poses. Enjoy!

The first picture - and the best shot of my Autumn decor

This is the face I make when people ask me how I feel

The monkey face

No explanation, but after this shot I was informed I was blocking all the pumpkins

Stay tuned for news of exciting progress in Logan's room. . .

"TCU ends BYU's BCS hopes, win streak, and undefeated season"

That's the ESPN.com headline. I was hoping for words like "crushes" or "trampled," but I guess "ends" is okay, too.

(I can't figure out how to make this link work, so cut and paste if you want more details of our crushing, trampling victory over BYU)

What an exciting night at Amon Carter Stadium! I'm not sure many thought we could pull this off, and although I tried to be hopeful, I also had my doubts. The Horned Frogs pulled it off. . . and then some. Our defense was incredible. Good things lie ahead for the Frogs - I feel it!

My feet and back hurt. Good night.

34 weeks

Leapin' lizzards! We're having a baby in 6 weeks!!! I had a Dr. appointment today and all is well. Logan is head down and about 4 pounds. Every time I hear his heartbeat I get goosebumps. We are so excited to meet our little guy! I had to get a flu shot today because the nurse "highly recommends" it. I haven't had a flu shot in years and can't remember the last time I was sick (knock on wood). I just KNOW that because I was forced to get this shot now I will get sick. I'm still feeling great and sleeping well. (and no more kankles for now)

Work is so stressful this month. Aside from the normal busy end-of-quarter stuff, the market is a mess, which you already know if you've paid the slightest attention to the news. My boss is out of town for 2 weeks and I'm SWAMPED with client calls and requests. This month is flying by, which is a good thing I suppose. . .

This is a fun new t-shirt I bought at Christmas in Cowtown. (Who grew out of her black bra?!)

Getting Very Close

Logan's room is almost complete. We're just waiting on his glider to arrive, window treatments, and some pictures and shelves for the walls. That sounds like a lot when I see it all written out like that I guess. But we'll get there. I had a dream the other night that I was going to wash all his clothes, but panicked when I didn't have Dreft, so I went out this week and bought 96 loads worth of Dreft. And at $21 a bottle, I'm hoping he's allergy free because we're switching him to our detergent!

Here are the most recent additions to his room - a sock monkey picture I got a Christmas in Cowtown and a bookshelf. At our Fort Worth baby shower all the guests were encouraged to bring a book to help build his library. What a fun surprise!!!

I have kankles.

This week I've been crazy busy after work shopping and volunteering at the Jr. League's Christmas in Cowtown holiday market. I've had a super time and have managed to get some Christmas shopping in, but after working all day and standing all night I can't see my ankle bones. Andrew was kind enough to rub my feet last night and I thought that when I woke up this morning I'd be all better. NOPE! Still have kankles.

This Mama Likes Pizza

For those of you who don't know, I work in a small office of a large investment company with 11 amazing people who all have very neat backgrounds and lives. One guy named Brian is mostly finished with building his very own wood-burning brick oven in his backyard. He and his sweetest-person-you've-ever-met wife Liz threw a baby shower for Andrew and me at their house last week - A PIZZA PARTY!!!! It was too cool to watch them dress a pizza and fire it. The oven was over 800 degrees and it only took 2 mintutes to bake each one. Brian and Liz make their own dough and sauce. I'm not lying when I say that this is the best pizza I've ever had. Thanks Brian and Liz and everyone from the office!!!
